This Privacy Policy explains how The Canopy Treehouses (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use the Canopy Guest App on iPhone or Android. We are committed to protecting your privacy and to complying with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth).
1. Information we collect
The app only collects information you actively give us or that is technically required to operate it. Specifically:
- Feedback you submit through the in-app Feedback form: your name (optional), the treehouse you stayed in, check-in and check-out dates, a wildlife tick list, a star rating, your written comments, and any photos you attach.
- Messages you send through Message Us: your name, whether you are a current guest, room or treehouse, issue type, your message, and a check-in date if you provide one.
- Maintenance requests you submit: name, guest status, treehouse, issue type, message, and date.
- A push notification token if you switch on message board notifications. This is an anonymous identifier issued by Apple or Google that lets us send you a notification. It cannot be used to identify you personally.
- A device identifier used for anonymous product analytics (device model, operating system version, app version, and app events). This is used only to debug the app and improve reliability. It cannot be linked to your name unless you also submit a form.
We do not collect location data, we do not track your activity across other apps or websites, and we do not sell any information.
2. How we use your information
- To respond to your feedback, questions and maintenance requests.
- To keep the app running reliably and to identify and fix bugs.
- To notify you about new messages on the in-app Message Board if you opt in.
3. Where your information is stored
Your submitted data (text, feedback, messages) is stored on Cloudflare’s D1 database service in the Oceania region (Sydney). Any media files you upload (photos attached to feedback) are stored on Cloudflare’s R2 object storage, which operates across Cloudflare’s global network. Outbound email notifications are sent through Resend, which relays via Amazon Web Services. Push notifications are delivered via Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging and briefly transit Expo’s push service.
4. How long we keep your information
- Feedback, messages and maintenance requests: kept indefinitely so we can refer back to them, unless you ask us to delete them.
- Push notification tokens: kept until you switch off notifications in the app or uninstall it.
- Analytics event data: kept indefinitely as an aggregated diagnostic record.
5. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- See a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct any information that is inaccurate.
- Delete your information.
To make any of these requests, or if you have any concerns about how we handle your personal information, please contact us at:
6. Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response to a privacy concern, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version in effect is the one published at this URL. Material changes will be signposted at the top of the page.
